Bypassing the keydecoder???
I have a 1990 Camaro RS with the 3.1L, the starting circuit went out and I have traced it back to the starter relay I think. According to the wire diagram the starter relay is powered by the key decoder at key on. Is there a way to bypass this and/or a way to check if it is working properly. I tried to manually close the relay and got the engine to turn over with the starter but it will not start. Any help would be helpful. Thanks.

Measure your key chip to find out the resistance value. 9 possible, IIRC. Pull the 2 wires down (that read the key) and solder in the needed resistor. No more chipped key needed.

Re: Bypassing the keydecoder???
I believe the chip only kills the ignition system, not the starter action.
In other words, no...The starter will spin all day, but the ignition will never fire.
