I have a 1986 Firebird and it has a V-6. I have replaced the battery and alternator several times thru the years, mainly yearly. After replacing either one of the componets, the charging gauge shows the the charging system is slowly going down, until it is time to replace either one of the componets. This is getting old real fast. Am I overlooking anything or should i take it to a garage and see if they can see what is going on. The charging system should be around 14 amps but it slowly and i mean slowly drops to 12 amps. Any ideas guys????..Ozzy kgcrimson47@aol.com..Please help!

 

My 86 used to eat alternators yearly as well. Luckily, the current one has been in there for about 5 years, but I think it's the 4th or 5th one I've installed...
