GPS Systems

Has anyone ever installed a GPS system into their third gen? I've never tried it, nor have I ever messed with a GPS system. Just bought a 91 Camaro RS for my girlfriend and she keeps asking if she can put a GPS system in it. Don't know why, but I told her I'd ask you guys to see if it's a good idea and if it can be done, and if so, where we could install it at?

Re: GPS Systems

There are just these little GPS box units they sell at Wal-Mart at most other stores for about $200 that she wants to get and mount in the car. My guess would be right next to the gauge cluster underneath those 2 vents in the middle of the dash, but is there anything difficult about these things or are they basically turn em on and stick em to the dash?

Re: GPS Systems

well, I will be honest and say I don't have too much experience with GPS systems... I just look up a map and know where I'm going, but most windshield mounted units come with an internal antenna, so I'm thinking if you want to mount it underneath the dashpad, you should try to find one that has an external antenna... I'm running a XM radio and it has an external antenna...

Re: GPS Systems

It may or may not work. I got my Dad one (but he doesn't use it, too hard to set things up for him, he's 76 hehe!) and we were out and about. I was setting it up while in the back seat and it worked. I was out with a co-worker in a full size work van and he set it up on the cup holder and it worked fine.

It's not as sensitive as satellite radio, it'll work "better" on the windshield but it should work lower down on the dash too. Long as it's not really low down, like where your feet go hehe!
