90 GTA Fuel Sending Unit
The local garage that I have taken my car to for the last five years always with satisfactory repair results is having difficulty adjusting the float of the fuel tank sending unit to read correctly on the gas gauge. On Tuesday of next week they are going to attempt to install the third AC Delco unit hoping to duplicate the position of the tank out of the car they way it sits installed in order to adjust the float properly. I am frustrated, they are frustrated. On top of that, now when the tank is near empty I hear this groaning noise from the tank which I am assuming is the fuel pump trying to suck gas, a continuous something stuck in the vacuum cleaner hose noise.
Does anyone have any pointers that I could pass on to the mechanic to get it right this time?
Thanks, teega

I never let my gas that low anymore because it cost me a fuel pump. When the pump is not submerged in fuel it gets too hot and burns out.
