knock sensor wire destroyed
While changing the starter on my 1991 v6 I noticed that not only was the knock sensor disconnected, but the harness was broke and now the harness will not stay on the knock sensor, it just falls right out.
First question is what does the car do without info from the kncok sensor? does it run really poorly? I havn't had this car on the streets for a few months now so I don't kow how it currently drives.
Second question is can I simply cut and splice a new harness from the junk yard in?

Re: knock sensor wire destroyed
The ECM recieves info thru the knock sensor. If it's not connected and your motor is not running properly (i.e. timing off, fuel/air ratio off ect.) the ECM is not getting the info to correct the problems. This could lead to engine damage. I think that is right, pretty sure. Regardless, you do need it! Just take the end that connects to the sensor to your parts store and get a new one. Or you can go to TPIparts found on this site and get one from there.
