Guages acting a little funny...
Guages acting a little funny...
ok.. so i just recentely purchased my 87 Iroc.. w/ 350.. i noticed that the guages act a little funny.. not sure if some of the things they do are normal and what I would have to check to fix if needed... here is what they do
1) Speedometer needle does a little dance/wiggle when going at slower speeds.. sort of goes up then down never staying on a speed that is not faster than about 15-20
2) Oil needle does the same as the speedometer.. Always doing a dance and never staying in one spot..
3) Battery guage usually stays just under or at the 13 mark. Not sure what is normal on these vheicles
4) Fuel guage sometimes looks like it could be telling the right amount of gas but then all of a sudden I have a full tank when I know I dont lol... i wish it was that simple to get a full tank but again not sure what I should check to see whats up
5) RPM guage seems to be working fine.. just when i turn the car off the needle goes and stays at 2000 RPM..
Again not sure what is normal on these cars but if anyone could give some input on what i have that would be great.. thanks in advance..

Re: Guages acting a little funny...
None of those are "normal" even though alot of our cars do it. My cr does 1 and 4 for example. That darn fuel guge moves around as I accelerate or brake. I can have a full tank as long as I keep it floored.
Oil needle should stay pretty steady and that is the only gauge I refuse to live with out it working properly. Could be a bad sending unit, they aren't that expensive.
I thought my tach was close then I checked it with 2 different digital hand held tachs and it was off by 250 rpm's. Turns out my car WILL idle below 1000 rpms with the comp XE284...LOL.
