86 TA Headlamps
86 TA Headlamps
I been working Sonny's auto pop up headlamps on his Trans Am.
Both headlamps motors will not pop up the headlamps BUT the lights do turn on.
I hot tested the motors & they worked fine. Thus leads me to think relay, fuse, or switch at dash.
I bought a relay from A local guy but I think the one he gave me was a firewall mount unit that is big & has the word GUIDE on it. I think that is for the 87 to 91 models. Not for 86
I think the relay's I need are each mounted on fenders up front.
My next step was go check fuse box. BAM I see blown 20 amp fuse in the box. I put new fuse in & I here the headlamps motor whrrr & pull down the lamps. (I had them opened up manually).
After that nothing else happens!
I am still at square one.
HELP so I can get this PIG roadworthy

Re: 86 TA Headlamps
UPDATE: Here is where I am at currently:
OK I think I have this beast figured from looking at wire diagram & a troubleshooting website.
82 to 86 Fieros/Trans Am have (1) hot fusible link, (1) isolation relay & (2) actuator relays.
Since my head lamps went down when I supplied a 20 amp fuse that means the power ran thru the isolation relay ( the power to isolation relay is one way for DOWN lamps only). I think this is OK
To bring the lamps back up there is a 1 HOT fusible link located under master cyl.
The 2 actuator relays are near the headlamps. I think both of these are OK since the headlamp motors both went down.
I am going to check the Fusible Link. I belive this is where my problem lies. Also check all body grounds.
