Ignition Control Module Brands
Is there a difference between the brands of ignition control modules? Yesterday I needed a new ignition control module and my mechanic obtained a Niehoff one from an auto parts store. The module that came with my MSD distributor died after about 6 years. The car runs much better now. I usually like to buy parts from big name companies such as MSD, Mallory, Accel, etc. I have heard mixed reviews about Pertronix. I have identified the following brands for our cars.
Accel - Part # 35362
Mallory - Part # 612
Jegs - Part # 40602
Pertronix - Part # D2002
Niehoff - Part # DR411CS
Accel - Part # 35362
Mallory - Part # 612
Jegs - Part # 40602
Pertronix - Part # D2002
Niehoff - Part # DR411CS

Re: Ignition Control Module Brands
I had my OEM ICM with 43000 miles on it, 16 years old and worked great. I found a good price on an accell one via epray and bought it. Worked for about 2 weeks and died on my about 1 mile from my house. I nailed it to my garage wall to remind me why I will never buy electronics from epray or acell. I put the OEM unit back in for now and its now 17 years old.
PS, I agree with the sig comment.
