Urgent-need help figuring out what this is!!!

I have a 1987 Trans Am GTA with the 5.7 TPI. I had pulled the dash out a couple weeks ago and just finished putting it back in today. I didn't cut any wires when doing this.

On the driver's side, by the fuse block, there is a connector with a thick purple wire and thick yellow wire on it. It is a female connector.

I need to know ASAP where it goes and what it does. It is the ONLY plug not connected that is keeping me from starting the car. Everything else except the cruise switch is hooked up (I broke it when putting it in).

The wiring on the connector isn't very long so it can only go to a couple places, if it was ever hooked up at all. I honestly can't remember. Does it go the junction block, or a connector somewhere in that area? I don't see any unused connectors.

Please, please, PLEASE, I need this done by today because my friend will be getting the car tomorrow and I will be getting his 88 GTA. If I can get this hooked up, then I can put the battery back in and fire it up. Thanks!!

Kevin

Is your car a factory auto trans? Mine has those 2 wires, but they're for the clutch pedal switch, so the car won't start unless the clutch pedal is pressed. The only reason I remember them is because my clutch switch is missing, and the previous owner cut the plug off them, and connected them with a wire nut...

My car is an automatic. Everything is hooked up; the car will crank but not run. I thought maybe it had something to do with that connector.

Re: Urgent-need help figuring out what this is!!!

I found a connector under my left kick panel that also has a yellow wire and a purple wire. I was told it's for the clutch, if the car has a manual tranny. It doesn't appear that it's ever been hooked up to anything.

Re: Urgent-need help figuring out what this is!!!

Heavy purple wires are always for cranking the starter. The heavy yellow is the circuit through the ignition and safety switches. If your car is cranking, its not this connector stopping it from starting.

I've got the same issue, mine is a 88 formula with a 305 TBI, auto trans. Did you ever figure it out?
