Hot Start/New Solenoid Question
Howdy
I have a 1992 with a 305 cid tbi.
I have a problem with the vehicle not starting after it has been run for a while. I realize that the starter solenoid is the problem so this is what I did. I employeed an old hot rodders trick and installed a ford solenoid to make the starter work.
I bolted the solenoid to the fender wall, put all of the accessories wires from the original starter to the post to the far right along with a new wire from the battery to the same post. I then took a wire and attached it to the starter and ran it to the far left post. I took a jumpwire from the (I) post of the original starter to the (I) post of the new soleniod. I took the purple wire from the original starter and ran it to the (S) post of the new solenoid.
Upon attempting to start the vehicle I observed that both solenoids click and the vehicle starts, however, as soon as you release the key from starting the vehicle the engine dies. I have moved all of the wires around, in every combination possible to figgure out why the vehicle dies once it is running and I can't figgure it out. I am sure the answer is simple, could anyone lend me some knowledge to figgure this out?
