Installing A Power Antenna Switch For Dummies
Hey there. This is like my third day here on the forums and I've gotten a ton of friendly responses so I figured I'd give somethin' back to you guys. This is a pretty simple guide, but if you don't want to gather the info that I had to and happen to stumble upon this, DO IT! It took me like 30 minutes, and I was taking pictures of the stuff for you while I was doing it.
Anyways, here's what we're doing here.
I got tired of my power antenna going up and down every time I got in the car, and I figured it was probably bad for the electric motor as well. So I went to Radioshack and bought a switch (more below, but keep reading) and spliced the power antenna wire and cut a hole under my dash near the steering column (very clean, very subtle) and ran two wires through it. I then
installed the switch and popped it into the hole. I reassembled the radio and bam! Sweet-*** button in case you need to actually listen to radio or your Ipod is dead.
So, to start this totally awesome task, you're going to need these materials:
Drill, Cone bit, electrical tape, some wire, a razor blade, a two-pronged switch from Radioshack, two wire nuts, and common sense as well as patience. You'll also want a flashlight, day or night time.
The switch will cost around $3.50 w/ California tax included.
Picture of items:

Closeup of Switch:

Remove your cover from your accessory tower:

Remove your stereo deck:

Find your pink wires, follow pic instructions:

Stop fondling your wires and cut a hole:

Run your wires to your location from your accessory tower:

Pull your wires out of your hole:

Connect spliced wires using wirenuts:

I enjoy your sense of humor. Although I too, don't have a power antenna
, I really appreciate the way you illustrate your work. Keeping it simple for the rest of us... rock on

Thanks. If anyone else does this or comes up with a different spot post it here, I'd like to see it!
