Distributer Not Seating Right? Feels tight.
I cant get my distributer on correctly. I can get it tight on, but it wont seat down to the gasket. There is like an 1/8 inch gap so the gasket is useless. Is this supposed to be like that? What is going on?

Are the ignition control module wires blocking it from seating ? Make sure the spinner on top of the shaft, under the dist, is fully seated.

Re: Distributer Not Seating Right? Feels tight.
You're sitting on the oil pump shaft. I think you need to have the rotor just before or after (1/8" maybe?) the point at which you want it to end up pointing. What needs to happen is you manipulate the shaft to seat on the dist and the cam gear will rotate the button into the correct position. You can use a long screwdriver or something like that to manuver the OP shaft into the correct position. After you've done it once, it will be so much easier the second time.

I felt it hit the grooves. It turned too, but it will not go down. I had the clamp on it and used the bolt to pull it down and it didn't budge. It is tight in there and I know it is in the grooves.

What do I need to do to get it seated? Should it just slide down all the way?

Take the dist back off, make sure the spinning peice on top of the shaft is pushed all the way down, make sure no wires are in the way, and it should go down all the way. Me and drinkmorebeer took his off, put it back on without a problem. Sounds like ur snaggin a wire ! Can u snap a pic of the dist off ? and one how it is now?

Have you tried moving the rotor with your hand back and forth to get it to catch. It sounds like it is sitting on the pil pump shaft. turn it an 1/8 and drop in and both ways. should catch. I think you are 1 tooth off.

If I was a tooth off would it cause it to not line up?

Just re-time the motor. Stop messin around and just re-do it from the begining. turn it over till #1 is on the compression stroke, fiddle with the dizzy till it drops back in, and set timing. If I need to I will drive out to chico and do it for you. You are making the GTG.

Yes, the oil pump has a little slot in it, if you are 1-2 teeth off it will not fit in the slot in the oil pump shaft. It will go most of the way down but not all the way.

Come on down. I know that the cap is pointing the right way for sure. It just wont go down all the way. I have to have it fixed by tomorrow or I don't think I will be able to make it.

Here, I'm going to go try it again for yall. I really want to go to the gtg.
----------
The car hasn't really been driven in 4 months and I really don't want to break down on the way to sac. I will need to drive it for a few days to make sure it is running good.
----------
I'll be right back.

Id hold out till you get new rotors, that way you wont have to replace them again when you replace the rotors

Damn. I was out there for an hour. I got it on, But I am not sure if it is 180* off yet. I think I have it right though. Just need to put the cap and plugs back on, then hook up the wires to my distributer... Then we will see!
