I know it's wierd, but I'd like to install a nice set of 85-90 T/A tail lights in my '92 T/A. What wiring changes need to be done? You know being that it's 2 amber lights now becoming 4 red.
I tried a search but really got nothing.
thanks

I did that swap before, biggest thing was swapping the t/l harness between 85-90 into the 91-92. The harness plug in for 91-92 firebirds is near the t/l's under the plastic panels and the plug for the 85-90 cars is located behind the driverside plastic, under the left rear speaker.I didn't have the 91-92 harn. so I had to do some wiring of my own since the model years have different plug ins not to mention the locations.
Anyway,I think all you need to do is run a wire from the brake switch(blue wire) to the t/s switch (white wire).
Hope that helps.

I started dickin' around with it today and I have 3, 85-90 harness(s),so I'll hack one of them up. I see what you mean by the brake light feed being a blue wire on the 91-92. I'm going to T-tap the 85-90 harness pre connector on the 92 T/L harness. That appears the best way to keep the original harness intact. It's a convertible so it has a different connector location to the main body harness up over the left wheelhouse.I did get the turn signals to blink the middle two, albeit fast blinking, but I bet the OEM flasher is a light duty flasher since it only uses one bulb per side.....I hope that's it anyway...

Try this tech article. It describes exactly what to do under the steering column to get the integrated brake lights and turn signals.

P.S.: Btw, once you have all-red tail lights, why not put a Sequential Turn Signal unit on them? It would look awesome on that convertible.

Lou my friend, you're reading my mind. That's half the reason I'm doing the swap.Originally Posted by BigBabyLou

Problem though....You mentioned a link and there's no link in the post?
I am having trouble with the brake light wire backfeeding the harness and stalling out the turn signals. But this was just some goofing around I did at the rear section of the harness. It looks like the turnsignal switch is different from the two versions of years...acording to the service manuals.

Yeah, you can't just connect the wires, you need to run the brake wire THROUGH the turn signal switch. The tech article/link above shows how.Originally Posted by W72

Lou didn't mention that there aren't any STS units for sale, but I suppose I could be persuaded to trade you a STS unit for your old tail lights..... Originally Posted by W72
