Re: NEED HELP
I have had that exact problem with 3 different vehicles
-was different cause with each:
-'74 nova-bad ignition coil.
-'77 blazer-bad HEI module
-'80 chevy pickup-badly worn cam
could also be a fuel flow problem.

Re: NEED HELP
Using a ballast resistor with that points ignition?-those
are supposed to have a ballast resistor to reduce the
voltage to the points after the ignition key is released
to run position after starting-1975 up GM vehicles do
not have this resistor(actually it is a special resistance
wire on GMcars-ask for a resistor for a '60s chrysler at a
parts store). Using points ignition without the resistor
will cause the points to arc, burn up,and cause the
problem you describe.Proper solution is to install an
HEI distributor from a 1975-80 chevy car or '75-86
pickup(some pickups use an electronic spark advance
control distributor from '81 on,so make sure you get
one with a vacuum advance canister on it)

Re: NEED HELP
oh. i dont know very much about the distributor but i kno it has points and im buyin hopefully a msd dist. off my friend for 100. i got the car for 1400. came with fresh rebuilt engine, racing seats with 5 point harness, 6 point roll cage, weld wheels with M/T street slicks,700r with manuel valve body, like a 350 shot of nitrous and alot more all because he thought he blew up the engine but all it needed was some sandpaper and points.

Re: NEED HELP
I hate to be the one to say this...but if someone built an engine, put a cage in the car, put a HUGE shot of NOS on it, and then didn't know whether he blew the engine or not, I would be _VERY_ suspicious of the materials and construction practices in the rest of the car....
Just my three cents...
