Hi all,

I've seen on parts websites evidence that there is some kind of difference in the years 82-83 and 84-92 for the wiper/lights/cruise control lever. Does anyone know what those differences are? Is there a difference in the end of the stalk that plugs into the wiper switch, or is it simply the cruise control wiring?

Basically I'm wanting to use a later year level on my '82 but I'm not worried about the cruise control because I removed that ages ago.

 

Does anyone have any experience on this?

 

I currently have an 83 Z28 wiper arm and column in my 86. The wipers were the 3 or 4 speed with the 'infinite' setting. Currently, the ONLY time the wipers work is when I push the lever forward as if I wanted to 'spray' the windshield. Sucks during downpours.

I believe the wiring is different, as well as the wiper motor connectors. I'd like to find an answer as well- if I need to convert my switch to an 86, or my wiper motor to an 83 to get my wiper functions back.

Long story short- I don't believe you can mix and match the arms with different motors.

I agree with you that the wiring is different, I thought I'd read somewhere that the differences was that they'd swapped the ground and power lines.

But I'm mostly curious to know about the end of the lever that you insert into the switch in the column. If the end of the lever you plug into the switch is mechanically the same across all years, then that's good for me. There's nothing clever about the lever, it merely actuates the switch in the column. I just need to know if a later year level will physically plug into the wiper switch.

 

It will- it's the wiring from there that is different- delay, or just 3 or 4 speed. I believe that most GM post 1980 wiper levers utilize the same end for plug and play (pun intended?).

 

Oh cool, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I can go and order a later year wiper lever now.
