1985 Trans Am - 305 TPI - Voltage Regulator Wiring
I own a 1985 Trans Am w/ a 305 Tune Port engine. It's stored in the winter and I drive it in the winter. When I bought it, the alternator didn't work so I had it rebuilt. This past summer that alternator went out so I purchased a new one and put a new battery in it (1000CA). I drove it on and off for about 3 weeks, and then I started using it as my primary mode of transportation for a few days and the alternator stopped working again. I went and got a replacement and have been looking around at the wiring. I never took much notice to it, but the voltage regulator wiring harness is all hacked together.
My question is, what two wires are suppose to go to this harness? Currently one goes down and hooks up to the Battery cable on the alternator, and the second runs back to the firewall. I didn't follow it far enough to see where it's going though.
I've had answers of Ignition/Ground, Ignition/Battery and Battery/Ground... so I'm really not sure. Battery/Ground makes sense to me, but like I said... no idea.
Thanks for your help!

I've been looking around more and I think it's one goes to the starter solenoid, and the other goes to a 20amp fuse in the fuse box (stock is the 20amp fan fuse). Is there any difference connecting the battery line to the harness instead of the starter solenoid?

In case anyone was wondering, I think I've figured it out.
The two wires go to the following:
The C/H fuse in the fuse box right before it goes to the cooling fan relay (suppose to be brown, in my case the one closest to the battery)
A fusible link spawning from the starter solenoid (The other one.. I think, red?)
When I bought the car, the wiring harness was wrapped with tons of electrical tape. I think my issue might be that the wire going to the cooling fan relay may be frayed somewhere. The fans were actually rigged together as well, so we'll see what happens. Hope this helps someone else.
