Best wiring practices

Hi Guys :

My post is asking for opinions from thirdgen members. Let me explain. I searched a lot , and can't find a clear answer to my hell.

I'm adding various things to my car , exactly :

- 4 gauges ( Trans TEMP , Oil Press , Vac , Tach)
- IGN Led (to see when the engine is runing , if isn't enought with the exhaust rumble )
- Aftermarket FAN relay.
- Linelock

Some of these things feed from IGN source , and a INST LPS power source (for gauge bulbs) , yes , i know , there's IGN and INST LPS terminals in fusebox , those terminals are fused terminals , no ?

I basically have various paths to follow :

- Adding two extra fuseboxes (one for INST LPS and other for IGN) . (Cost: 80$)
- Use stock fusebox terminals and if i need upgrade both fuses. (Cost : cheap)
- Cut wiring , soldering , tapping , making the original wiring a CRAP. (Cost : cheapest than cheap way =) )

What people think about feeding a bunch of things from the same IGN / INST LPS fusebox terminal ?

What is the best practice ?

Opinions ?

Thanks for the help

When it comes to adding any accesories to any car you have to look at the current draw to what you are adding. You will potentially need relays and or extra fuses. If you are a shade tree mechanic with little 12 volt wiring knowlege be very carefull! Too many lights on the dimmer cicuit for example will melt your headlight switch, too much currnet draw on ignition wiring can burn fuses or fusable links. Worse yet your car could also burn to the ground with improper wiring. Take your time to do things the right way....good luck.

Re: Best wiring practices

First , thank for your answer.

I know the risks , adding 4 bulbs , don't look a potential risk to the dimmer circuit

My idea is using a aftermarket fusebox for aftermarket things attached to ignition , clean , and happy.... reason ? if i blow a fuse , it will be the fuse in aftermarket fusebox and not the "main IGN fuse", and it's a kinda cleaner than hacking wires , and i like to split stock things from aftermarket things.

Answering me , these are the needed fuses for gauges and aftermarket fan relay :

5 or 4 AMP Fuse = (1 gauge = 1 amp (1*4 = 4))
1 AMP Fuse = (fan relay = 1 amp)

Greets

If you wanna laugh , i'll take photos of the recently removed alarm from my car , it was installed by a "drunken ape" or something.
It was a really dangerous thing , broken + wires touching ground , joining wires without tape or solder .... blah blah ...

Funny stuff.
