Wierd Electrical Issue

The other day, I was messing around with my battery placement because my CD player will constantly turn off and then back on when I take sharp turns or hit bumps or even just normal driving. So, I thought the battery might be moving around and screwing up the connection temporarily. Anyway, the previous owner had some stirofoam (sp?) in the front and one side of the battery. Not knowing what this was for, I moved the foam around. Well, I was driving it later and right when I got home all my electronics went dead, then shortly after my engine died. I then realized that the foam was keeping the positive connector from touching the chassis. Well, it ended up touching and the connectors melted like ice cream in the sun where the wire were bolted to. So I replaced the connectors and battery. Now, my voltmeter is showing almost nothing to no power at all. My lights are dim and I never have enough power to open the trunk when the engine is off. It runs ok, except for a slight over-heating issue. Starter seems to work fine. I noticed tonight that when I slammed on my breaks, my lights would go back to full power briefly then back to dim. I'm not using the cd player and the connections to the battery are tight and clean. Everything looks normal but the battery will not charge. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

***UPDATE***
I've been doing some more investigating and I believe the battery is working fine. My fan is electrical and ignition started. It runs off the battery with no problem and my dome lights work fine when the engine is off. When my lights are on, my blinkers don't seem to work. It's like everything is running on minimum power. I have to try my stereo, as it is hooked straight to the battery, as are my interior neons, which worked fine. It's like the cluster guage and head lights are not getting enough power from the battery. Possibly a short somewhere? I tried messing around with all the wires but no improvement at all in the dimness of the lights. All fuses look fine. I have no electric locks or windows - everythings pretty basic. The engine starts with no problems.
