Anyone know about VATS?

I have a stock 91 camaro rs and I plan on switching my 305 for a newer LT1, but from what I have been reading about how to swap the engines a lot of guys on the formus end up with problems with their VATS once they put a new ECM in. I do not know alot about what goes into the type of swap I what to do, so I don't know if this is even possible but is there any way I can elimanate my VATS system so I will not run into problems when I do my engine swap. I would be thankful for any information you could give, Thanks

The only thing the VATS module does with regards to the ECM is ground the "cranking fuel enable control". There is a dark blue wire coming from the VATS module and going to the ECM. If the LT1 ECM doesn't have that wire, then all you have to do is put a resistor across the wires that come from the VATS module and that go to the ignition cylinder. Then take those wires off the ignition cylinder and you should be set. If you search for "bypassing vats" or "disabling vats" you're bound to find what I'm talking about. I guess the way the LT1's ECM works with VATS is what will determine what to do. But if it's the same way as our cars, then my method should work. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

ok here is a simple version.
the ecm only looks to see if there is a vats because it is programed to look. it then looks to a little black box that is under the dash next to the fuse box. the little box says - hey someone is tickling me and looks to the key to see if it has the right resistor in it. if it has the correct resistor then it tells the ecm - fire this bad boy up.
the only thing you need to know is do the vats black box next to the fuse have the same resistence as the key.
just remember to use the same key and vats that are already in your car.
or you can program you ecm not to look for the vats.
simple enough?

oh i forgot to say - DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON A LT - JUST GE THE LS! the lt is a half way job between your stock engine and the ls.

I would love to get an LS but I am trying to keep it with in a decent budget and a LS is a little out of my price range. Thanks for the info guys about the VATS it is going to be a little while before I do my swap because right now I am still researching on how to do it as well as saving money. The info you gave me about VATS has helped a lot!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah does anyone know of a good place were I could send a ECM to get reprogramed not to recoginize VATS.
