fans and the orange wire

i did a search and didnt find what im looking for so here goes.

once again that lil orange wire about 6-8 in down the pos bat terminal is giving me fits. 6-8 in down there is this black round cylindrical thing with a black wire that plugs into a red wire on the batt side and on the down stream side is an orange wire. all of this is riding on the main alt cable that branches off of the batt/ starter wire.

im trying to figure out if this orange wire is a fuseable link or what? i know it plays a major part in the fans as when its disconnected the fans wont run.

also, when i got the car up to temp for the fans to come on i touched the wires and while letting the fans run the wire got pretty hot. does anyone have any info on this wre and if i can run another wire safely to fix all of this?

Re: fans and the orange wire

Funny you mention this... I'm relocating my battery to the trunk of my GTA and I'm wondering exactly what that stuff is.

Mine has a large weatherpack connector with a red wire and an orange wire coming out of it and going to a black cylinder which is on the alternator wire about 6" from the battery connector.

My question is what the hell do I do with that stuff since I'm running all new stuff from my alternator and starter back to my shutoff switch in the spare tire well.

Re: fans and the orange wire

thts a good ques. i can assure you the orange wire only affects the fans as i went ahead to our dyno day and the car ran fine otherwise. being i have a 82-83 style dam which is almost 1½ - in deeper than a standard dam for our car, mine ran normal temp. im doing my homework on this thing as its one of those "must be right" things that bug me.
BTW, i may come up to BlueZees get together and catch up with you guys. last time i seen you guys was when i met ya at the BG event.

Well... with mine disconnected the fuel pump doesn't prime so I guess its the main 12v feed to that relay. I guess I'm gonna connect it back to the alternator and then just "dead-head" it after that.

Everything else is all done on my battery relocation to the trunk. Sealed box, vented, shutoff switch, 1 gage from starter to shutoff switch, 2 gage from alternator to battery... all it well except for this little problem.
