alternator ?
I dont know much about alternators other than what i've read today trying to figure this out. I took out a good bit of wiring from the engine bay when i switched from tbi to carb in my 89 iroc 305. I got a little bit trigger happy with the wire cutters, and i accidentally cut the wires on the harness on the regulator. I had a wire running from the alternator battery post to the starter, and that was it, and it was obviously not charging. I ran a second wire from the starter to one of the pins where the harness would connect, and it is now charging fine (13.8V). There are 4 pins in the regulator, 3 small and 1 large. I ran the second wire from the starter to the small pin closest to the large pin.
My question is, will this current set up eventually ruin my alternator and/or regulator? At higher RPMs? (I revved a little bit and did not see a jump in voltage) Or is it ok to leave that second wire on the one pin? Thank you.
