Problem with IAC. Please Help.

I have recently installed a new IAC valve on my 91 305 TBI camaro.
i have read the link that explains how to adjust MINIMAL AIR. I have tried doing the steps but, i come to a problem that when i have the IAC disconnected i have trouble starting the engine so that i can make the adjustment on the throttle body. I have to open the throttle wide open to get to run and to stay on i have to keep the throttle open. On the instructions it sounds like a ONE MAN job but I cant hold throttle and make adjustmen at the same time. I am running a small cam but i dont think that this would be the problem.
can someone exlplain EXACT step by step in case i am missing something.
thanks in advance.

Re: Problem with IAC. Please Help.

adjust the screw in like 3-4 turns, that way it will idle itself, and adjust it down from there
