Hatch Pulldown Solenoid
On the wriring loom for the Hatch Pulldown there is a solenoid block ?. Anyone know what it does ?.
The reason I ask is because the whole assembly was stuck in the upper position. The motor was not running or doing anything.
I stripped it down and freed it all up. However one of the connections to the solenoid block was nasty. I cleaned all that up and repaired the connector. I quickly plugged the stripped motor in to the harness and powered it up.
The motor runs when I press the striker switch down, and I manually flicked the reverse switch and it goes off (good huh).
When I release my finger from the striker switch - nothing ?. The motor does not backup ?.
Does this solenoid control that function ??????.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Re: Hatch Pulldown Solenoid
The striker sensing switch starts both the up and down cycle. The reversing switch ends both the up and down cycle. Here's how it should work. Close the hatch. The striker sensing switch closes starting the down cycle. It will continue down as long as the striker-sensing switch is being held closed. The motor continues to power the latch assy down until the upper tab on the lift rod flips the switch on the reversing switch. This shuts off power to the motor and reverses the polarity. Open the hatch, the striker-sensing switch is opened which starts the up cycle. The motor will power the latch assy up all the way until the lower tab on the lift rod trips the switch on the reversing switch to shut off the motor and again reverse the polarity.
The hatch solenoid is powered on a separate circuit from the pull-down motor. It has a black wire with black connector on the end that provides power to it. There also should be a ground wire connected to the 10mm screw that mounts it to the latch assy. If that ground sire is missing the solenoid won't work because the latch assy is electrically isolated from ground by the guides in the track.
Your problem could be from either the striker switch or reversing switch being bad. Both are discontinued, but I sell both on my site (TDS) over there--->

Re: Hatch Pulldown Solenoid
Hi Lon,
Thanks for the Info.
I know I have written Hatch Solenoid, but what I meant to actually write was hatch relay (duh!).
I pulled the relay off the loom and it did the same thing (runs in one direction only) so I think it is the relay that is shot.
I ordered myself one of those along with a hinge repair lit from your website. Thanks for making your site easy to ship to Canada.
