Charging Question

Yesterday on my way home i noticed my volt gauge was reading under 13 volts. When I got home I put a multi-meter on the battery and it read 11.92 volts with the engine running. Today I went back out to investigate the problem and got 12.41 volts with the engine off. Then I started the engine and tested it again and it still read 12.41 but then all of a sudden it jumped up to 14.39 volts. So, I'm thinking it must have a bad internal voltage regulator?? What do you guys think? Thanks

Re: Charging Question

14.39 sounds right for a properly charging alternator. Try taking a reading while keeping the motor at 2000rpms. If youre still getting 14+ vdc, try bumping the the throttle to give the regulator built into the alternator something to regulate. The faster the alternator spins.....meh, not getting into the theory of a PMG.

Thanks, But I already had the old one tested and it was a bad voltage reg. I replaced the alternator with a new one and everythings been fine so far. Thanks
