Dash problems PLEASE help

ok here's the problem I have tried my best to fix it and I have even looked around on here too... When I turn on my headlights/parking lights only about half my dash lights up and no lights on the shifter and heater control. All outside lights work correctly and other interior lights too. The dash shows that the signals are on (no blinking) and the brights indicator is backwards (on when low-beams are on). If I turn the dimmer to where the interior lights come on everything lights up and the dash lights correctly.... I know what you think replace the headlight/dash dimmer switch, I did that and have even taken it back to make sure I didn't get a faulty switch, no difference. Also I bought a 145 speedo cluster and installed it in place of my old one... same thing still. When it happened was when I put all new headlights in the car and the driver's side outer light wasn't working, I wiggled the wire and it started working and when i went to turn off the lights I noticed the dash issue. I have unplugged the headlights checked all grounds on them, taken the dash out, and unplugged the high/low beams switch.... there is never a change.
Does anybody have any ideas at all? I am stumped at this point and any ideas no matter how dumb they may be will be of great help!!

well sounds like you really are havin some troubles. First let me get a few things strait. When you turn on the headlights everything works crazy. Now you said when you turn the headlight switch **** to turn on the lights everything works fine but is that with the headlights on or no? In eather case try turning the lights on with the headlights off. It sounds to me like a bad ground but well crash through to the bottom of it eventually.

Yes it was a bad ground on the headlight switch... I ran a new ground and piggy-backed onto the old one, everything works now except my new speedo seems to read sluggish any ideas on that?

Well assumeing its accurate you did swap to a 145 MPH speedometer that means that the needle will move slower to compensate for the longer travle on the speedo. How sluggish is it?

yea its a deffinet possability. Is it a mechanical guage or electronic? If its mechanical try pullin it and spinning the input to the speedo by hand and see if its more responcive. If that dosnt work well you can eather live with the crappy responcivness, send it out to be redone which would probably not be worth it concidering what it would cost to just get another onn off ebay, or 3 try some penetrating oil to loosen things up although im not sure how much speedometers like penetrating oil.
