Hello everyone, I was referred to this site by the guy I bought my car from. I have had in the past a 91 RS, and am familiar with them. This car is an 86 Iroc w/ one original owner, always garaged and stored in winter. It has 90,000 on it and is mint. It's black w/ t top 305 tpi w/ auto.

I have been doing the "usual" maintenance and flushes since it has not been driven(fluids only so far). I live in Ohio. I noticed going thru a car wash it would stall. I didn't think anything of it because I thought it just needs to run. Today we had a downpour of rain and I was at a light and noticed my turn signal was half speed blinking. Then I turned on rear defr. and radio shut off. I jumped on highway to get 2 miles to my home and it acted like it was stuttering (motor) pulled off on exit and it stalled. It started up and I had to keep the gas on to run and Limped it home, it died thankfully right in front of my house. Tried to start it and just kept clicking.

I think the harness got wet and messed w/ computer. I don't know where it's located to figure it out. Another guy said maybe it has cracked spark wires, coil, or cap. Would that actually cause car to do that? Any advise would help because the wife is already mad I bought w/ out her knowing, and will bitch if I have to take to shop.

 

Does it help knowing my 3rd brake light is outside of back window and doesnt work after replacing bulbs and cleaning trunk contacts? Could moisture cause my above problems?

 

It kinda sounds to me like you have a few issues that may not be related. First, it sounds like your charging system has a failure. Which explains why the car just clicks when you try to start it after it died in front of your house. It also explains why the radio dies when you fliped on the defroster and the slow blinking turnsignal. This obviously would cause it to run rough as well. Now to me thats one problem the other issue you mention is the car staling in reavy rains or while washing the car. I think this might be possably related to water getting into the distributor if the seal on the back of the hood wasnt 100% or whatever water can pretty much drain right onto it. The reason why i dont think there related is alot of these systems are pretty much seperate so the only common point is the power source which they all seem to be lacking adaquit power. Second if water was killing the charging system it would not quickly kill the car like that the battery would run down and eventually quit. The light in the rear i dont think that has anything to do with this but well get to that after we get a few of these other issues straightened out.
