Car Wont Start after new parts installed
Car Wont Start after new parts installed
Changed ignition module and pickup coil after the car stalled out under load on the hwy. Had already changed plugs, wires, cap and rotor prior to the the car stalling and ran fine. Pickup coil looked wasted when i changed it out. Went to put the dist. back in and crank and started but heard a lil rattle sound coming from the cap and timing was way off. Come to find out the cap wasnt all the way tighten down because the threads where stripped out on the dist itself. Great took it out and drilled a bigger hole and got bigger screws no prob. Now when back and tried it wont even start. Im not a 100% sure i put the dist back the same way i took it out though. being i was rushin and alil p.o becuz of the cap etc. I did a search and couldnt find ne thing similiar to the same problem i am having. Need to know how to set that dist in its correct place for it to be able to aleast turn on. BTW this is on a 87 iroc tpi setup engine in a 89 rs.

need to set your crank and your cam to TDC then set your dist in at 0 TDC and time from there. should've marked your dizzy's position before pullin it out. hopefully lesson learned.
Re: Car Wont Start after new parts installed
can i mess up my timing by changing the cap and rotor? i also changed wires. i though the wires were all correct, but car didnt start and did one huge backfire cuz i gave it sum gas. then i redid wires and car fired rite up. turned it off so that i could arrange wires to not burn on headers. then went to start and same problem. im sorry for the thread hijack. i just really need to get my car started and this seem alil similar. hope your problem gets fixed aswell!
o and i also tried switching bak old cap n rotor. and car seem to try to start alil more with the new cap and old rotor. no idea why...

Replaced the coil and ign module and corrected the timing issue and runs even better than b4. set the timing to 8 maybe alil much i think ive heard 6 where its suppose to be.
Did learn something when dropping the dist back in at 0 tpc make sure your on the compression side of the stroke or else it will be off and prolly backfire like mines did lol. Pulled the #1 spark plug and have some1 crank the key till it blows ur finger out then u know ur on the money.
I would recommed replacing those other parts while your down there. Unless they are fairly new. good luck let us know what it was.
