1985 Firebird V6 alternator issue

Just put in a new replacement alternator (oversized 78 amp like OEM). Problem is, I'm not sure I put the wires back on correct. I have the main battery wire (RED) connected to the post, then I have the clip on two prong piece connected, then from that piece there is another red wire that appears to also connect to the post where the battery wire is. However, when I connected those, ran the car, I noticed my left turn signal would not operate ---it would just stay on, no blinking. Then, this morning I noticed my battery light was on as if the battery didnt charge. This alternator didnt come with a wiring diagram and there isnt one in the Haynes manual I have either. Should that "other" wire not be connected? I have a brand new battery that should not be draining for overnight. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
