Power Windows Fuse/Fusable link?

I have a 91RS with the whole power package and I was driving my car to the exhaust shop after my engine swap and the windows will no longer work. Something happened while I was driving because everything was good when I left. The pass window is up and the driver is down and neither is responding.

I am very comfortable with vehicle electric systems so if I can't get an answer I will make something work but I would prefer to fix it the proper way, so if anybody knows if there is a power window fuse or fusable link that I should look at let me know.

pardon my ignorance but where do I get those. I already looked at those its says PWR WDO and there are two of them, are the both for the power windows, one for each? cause I tried pulling them out and switching them around and still nothing.

at an auto parts store, with the fuses, i think they are 30a breakers

i think each window is under its own fuse/breaker

soo ummmm hmmmmm

try replaceing them anyway, if it dont fix the problem post back up, i got the actual GM service manual and it has super detailed wire diagrams, i will check it out and see what i can figure out if replacing the breakers dont work

Re: Power Windows Fuse/Fusable link?

replaced them anyways, and checked the "g210" ground (I have a factory manual too. ha ha) and still nothing, I am going back to the exhaust shop tomorrow to pull the door panel off and check in there but I doubt it is cause the passenger doesn't work either. There is something else clicking under the dash but my 91 Camaro factory manual doesn't show anything else in the circuit. If there is anything else that could be in the circuit that is faulting out? There is is power going to the switches and power leaving the switches as they should. Has anyone ever heard of both window motors kicking the bucket at the same time?

Re: Power Windows Fuse/Fusable link?

They couldn't both be dead at the same time. According to my 1990 manual, there is only one 35A breaker for WDO, the PWR breaker is for something else. When you hear the clicking, is it when you operate the switch, or when you turn the key on? The click is probably the breaker throwing. It likely resets itself when the power is turned off then back on. It depends upon the breaker, some will continually try to reset themselves.

Re: Power Windows Fuse/Fusable link?

Its when the button is pressed and if you hold it it clicks rapidly like a turn signal flasher with a burnt out bulb.

Re: Power Windows Fuse/Fusable link?

That clicking would be the breaker doing its job. On both switches??? I'm thinking the switch is grounding out the hot wire.

Re: Power Windows Fuse/Fusable link?

I am at a loss for this one, I am usually pretty good with this type of thing. It makes it worse because it isn't at home where I can mess with it.

No Function on either window, up or down, clicking under dash but it isnt coming from the main fuse panel which is where the circuit breaker is right?

It is supposed to rain on Saturday and I don't have a garage spot for it and I don't trust garbage bags.

Re: Power Windows Fuse/Fusable link?

You must have a bad/disconnected/broken ground somewhere then. The door locks use a relay, maybe that is whay you hear clicking. Does your electric mirror work?

Re: Power Windows Fuse/Fusable link?

No power mirrors but my factory manual says that locks share a ground too and they work just fine.

I caught the wires going into the door from the kick panel for the window when I was out there yesterday and its supposed to rain tomorrow. What if, I just cut the both wires, ground one of them and put the other one to hot? Will that cause the window to operate assuming the motor has kicked, right?

Then when I get the car back home next week I can fix it properly and solder those wires back up.

Re: Power Windows Fuse/Fusable link?

Get yourself a test light at the auto parts store and see if there's juice to the switch. If there is then see if there's juice when you press the toggle to the up direction.

If there's no power. There may be a broken powerwire in the door harness. The harness between the door and body of the car.Check this too. Those wires can break over time in any vehicle.

Hope this helps,

Tony

I actually have a MD76100 from Matco, which is a computer and airbag safe logics probe with the option to put power or ground to the tip probe.

I am getting a solid 12v signal to my window switch with the key on and a good ground too.

I tested it at the kick panel and its not getting power down there. There is something else clicking under my dash somewhere between the steering column and the area where the radio goes, My interior is mostly stripped except for the dash and a drivers seat because I have been repairing the floor among other things.

You should be able to operate the motors that way. On the drivers side, the wires are dark blue and brown. The other side is light blue and tan. Hate to see you cut those up though.
