Tired of electrical problems....
Tired of electrical problems....
Let me introduce myself first.
I am.. Korean.. ( I probably would be the only korean who's driving a camaro.)
I have a 89 Camaro RS 305 5.0 .
I've had lots of problems, but i've solved them pretty well for a newbie. (with lots of helps from others.)
I've ran into another problem... about 2 days ago...
My dumb *** ****ing honda friend tried to set my car to "acc" mode by forcing the **** out of my ignition cylinder lock. (thanks ****in douche bag)
( I didn't know he did this.. until i tried to turn on my car)
simply, i was trying to turn the car on, and i didn't feel the spring? i turned my key all the way, and the car was still on "on" mode. when it was supposed to start. so i freaked out for like 2 days.
i took out all the steering wheel and stuff inside (steering column)
i found out that my ignition steel rod was bent. (a friend of mine helped me spot this problem)
so we straighten the rod, put stuff back in, recon the battery, try to start the car again, i got the spring back, and everything felt good. BUT the car didnt wanna start?
long story short, i don't think the starter motor is getting any power. My auto tech class teacher came by today and did someting with the starter motor alone, and starter was fine.
and he suggested me to get a "momentarily button" to start the car - Easy way. you know how people turn their key on "running" position, and click the button which gives the power to start motor then the engine starts?
BUT i do not want to do that. I want to fix this whole problem.
So.. here are my questions for my fellow 3rd gen lovers.
1) after i found out that the steel rod was bent, and i straighted that out. and i got the spring back on my cylidenr + etc.
WHAT could be the problem that's not giving the power to the starter?
That's all i need right now, I've been depressed for 3 days straight... seeing my car not running... Need help asap..
I do not want a additional switch attatched on my dashboard or something. i want to fix this whole problem instead of goign around it...
thank you for reading it!!!

Re: Tired of electrical problems....
It is very likely that other parts of the steel rod are bent, thus not allowing the rod to fully extend and close the starter contacts in the ignition switch.
If you can pull the ignition lock cylinder out and push on the steel rod, it should turn the gauges on and if you push further, it should crank the engine. If it does, the switch is good and you need to adjust the rod a little more.
Hope this helps.

i think from beding the rod.. it damaged the wires? that goes to the starter...
today, i added a switch.. (starter switch)
i tried to turn on the car, and car started. but it died immediately?..
AHHHHHHHH what is it now?... I replaced cap and rotor.. i think it's the fuel..
or a vacuum leak?

Re: Tired of electrical problems....
Test the THICK yellow wire from the ignition switch. If it shows 12V on it while the key is turned into Start position, the switch is good and the problem is downstream. In that case, you can follow this troubleshooting article: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=38
Hope this helps.
