Defrosters come on when I hit the brakes ('86)

Title says it all. My rear defrosters turn on when I hit the brakes. I imagine it has something to do with the fact that my car is an 86 and the thrid brake light is in the hatch glass. I just got the windows tinted last week so im not getting new glass. this was happening about a month ago, so i disconnected the defrosters and the brake light. I got sick of riding around with a light out so i hooked everything back up and everything worked ok for a couple weeks. as of last night, the problem returned and my defrosters come on when my brake pedal is down. any ideas?

mine did it when the wires that are attached to the base of the hatch strut were off. Check them, maybe they are loose
