MSD HEI, is this what I should get?
Hi,
I have an 83 Camaro that I dropped in a 350 from an 1988 Chevy Suburban. currently the engine has a generic noname distributor, from what people have been telling me, its not a good distributor for my setup, more for a stock application.
I guess the only things that should affect what distributor i should get would be my carb and cam.. maybe? the cam I have is a comp cams thumpr cam, non roller style. the carb I will be running is a 670cfm holley street avenger, with vacuum secondaries and electric choke.
I'm about to buy a new distributor, and since me and my buddy have had good experiences with MSD, we decided to go with one.
I was doing some research, I think this one might be best for my setup.
its the MSD 8365 Pro Billet HEI Distributor
Trigger Style Magnetic
Advance Type Vacuum and mechanical
Cap Style Male/HEI
Gear Material Iron
I was wondering if this would be best for what I'm looking for?

I am pretty new to this form but I would tweak the stock distibutor put in a new coil better cap and wires maybe a new module I doubt you are going to operate in the 9000 rpm range if I where to guess the cam probally peaks around 5500 to 6000 well in range of a stock distributor save the money and maybe put it into your heads thats a pretty pricey distributor if you feel the need to replace it the msd will do the job but I think a GM performance dist or an accel one will also at 1/2 the cost just throwing in my 2 cents
