Unknown Electrical Issue

Well I'm fairly new to the TGO boards and have found all kinds of useful information already. So I bought a 1987 Iroc a few months ago and have been fixing it up. It would start up with no issue the first few weeks when I would drive it. Now, whenever I want to drive it I am constantly stuck with a dead battery. I throw it on the charger and it starts up fine again. Me and my father can't find anything that may be stuck on except for the fuel gauge. Is it possible that because the gauge is always pegged that it is taking all my battery power? Is there anything else known to get stuck on in these cars?

I did something like described on the wikihow. Mine ended up being the OEM tape deck so I gave in and installed an aftermarket. It was small enough so that I could start the car all weekend but the following weekend it would be dead.

I believe it's unrelated to any parasitic battery drain but my gas gauge is pegged also. it only works when my fuel level gets really low. Basically the level of fuel where it was when it sat a couple years so lesson learned here is, store your car with a full tank of gas. =) Otherwise the sender corrodes on the exposed portion and pegs the gauge.

Re: Unknown Electrical Issue

If it takes 2-3 days for the battery to drain, check the fuel pump by placing ear directly on the hump in the rear of car on a dead quiet evening, and see if it's running with the key in your pocket. Sometimes the Oil Pressure Sending Units can go bad and cause the fuel pump to run constantly, draining the battery in 2-3 days.
