please help, oil pressure and coolant temp.

hi
i just did a swap from a the 3.1 to a carb'd v8 in my 92 camaro. i have the car running and driving but when i tried to get the oil pressure gauge and water temp. gauge to work they wont. i used the oil pressure gauge that come off the v6 and just extended the wire length to fit and a water temp sensor was already on the engine so i just cut the connection off for the v6 harness and that didn't work so i reinstalled the stock connection and installed the sensor (off the v6) to my v8 and still nothing. any advice?

I done the same thing before only we used the sensor off an older style v-8. If it don't work and you know it did before maybe a ground? is it a regular cluster or digital?
can you tell me what color the wires your hooking up are? There is the ones for the gauges and the ones for the lights.

i don't know why i didn't think of the idot lights. i don't remeber the colors off the top of my head but i believe for the oil pressure it was a white/light tan, brown, and a orange. the sensor i used (along with the wires/connection from harness) came off the oil filter plate. the coolant temp was a single wire, maybe yellow, but that sensor and connection came off the right side of engine just above the starter. i was sure to hook up the same sensor and connector that was stock on the car.
