What is this??

I just picked up an 88 bird with a 2.8 to get back and fourth to work. Going through the usual engine stuff, I found this just sitting on the frame by the radiator. It looks like an oil sending unit, but my gauge works, and the wires that were plugged into it won't reach the block. I have no clue what it's for and I checked the wiring diagrams, but no match. The wires that were plugged into it were gray and black. The car runs fine and aside from some electrical bugs, it's not bad. Any help would be great.

A picture of what you found might help us try to figure out what it is
