well I finally got my z i bought back together and its bein a pain in the *** to start and when it does finnally start with starting fluid it revs really hard and hold it til you kill the motor... first camaro Ive owned so this is all new to me... any help would be greatly appreciated...
Surging or constant high idle?
Surging is a vacuum leak. Constant gets trickey

its a constant thing as soon as it fires over the rev starts climbing til its rapped out and hold til you kill it... I did check the TPS and it within the normal range as far as voltage at idle all the way up to WOT... with a steady voltage climb no spikes or dead spots.... also have to start it with starting fluid but fuel pump primes and injector fire...

Possibly the ECM has crapped out. Might wanna check that out. Had the same symptom happen to me. . .took starting fluid to start it, and would just SCREAM. max revs. If it runs long enough does it start to overheat??? Goes well over 220 degrees without the fan kicking on?
thats kinda what I was affraid of but wanted to get the opinion of you guys... yeah the temp climbs fast without the fans kickin on I tried to do the jumper trick on ALDL and when I kicked the ignition on the fans ran but no SES codes or a light at all

Yeah, your not gonna get any codes or SES light. I didn't either. 'Cause the ECM wasn't active to send them.

thanks guy you have been a great help I appreciate it alot well Im gonna call autozone first thing in the mornin surprisingly its not that expensive... lol so hopefully I will have my car goin tomorow...
You can use the factory fan bypass by turning the AC on
ok guys bein messin with it when I get the chance here and there and just happened to start it with the MAP sensor unplugged and it will idle for about a min then the rev will start to climb and sit sounds like its backfirin threw the intake
Have you had the distributor out recently?
A dist 180* out is prone to intake backfires

no man I havent had the dizzy out at all and it clears up when I plug the map sensor in its just revs so damn high... something else is today I was messin with it and cranked it over and it didnt start so I let off the ignition and motor continuted to crank any ideas... does power go to the starter first then to the ecm? cuz that would make sense to me to all my problems if I have a short before or at the starter...
