a vats issue.solved
For a couple weeks now my wifes 91 rs would have a no start problem. It is a stock 305 with a viper alarm. Occasionally iwould have to go rescue her, only to find when i got there and stuck my key in the ignition the car would fire.
At first i thought the neutral safety switch was out od adjustment, having had that problem on my 90. But that didnt help.Thenthe next idea was that the viper was pooping out.
Finall y the car didnt start in my driveway, which was actually the break i was looking for, all my tools are here and i didnt have to be anywhere.
So i sat with my wife and got her to go thru every step she takes to start the car using her keys.
No start.
i went and checked grounds, batt terminals and fuses. I put my key in and it fired.
I put her key and my key side by side and looked at the pellets. The pellet on her key was considerably rounded and worn, while mine was still nice and square.
I went to the dealer and got them checked , both were still good. But her key was just not making contact in the ign.
I havent had a problem so far.
I know this seems kind of a low tech fix. but these cars are 20+yrs old and so are the keys. 25$ for a new key doesnt really seem like alot next to a tow bill.
I hope this helps someone.
