Grab firmly in one hand - and Pull it.

If it has cruise control than you will need to carefully snake the cruise wire thru the column to get it out.

How do you snake the new one on? Mine has thoughtfully snipped wires so the handle can come off easier in my discovery process..

The connector at the bottom of the cruise wires is flat and has a small hole drilled in it. Attach a small wire through that hole and pull the cruise wires back through the column so that you also pull the wire you attached into the column as well. Use the wire to pull your new cruise harness back through the column. If you have tilt-wheel, make sure the column is straight.

You can expect this set up to get caught inside the column about a half dozen times so don't pull too hard, just keep re-trying.
