'88 Trans Am headlights stuck up

Hey everyone, me and a friend of mine both own '88 Firebirds, mine's a Formula, hers is a Trans Am. She's been having a problem with the headlight motors on hers though, all the lights still work, and the motors are still getting power because when you turn the headlights on or off you can hear the motors turning but the lights don't move.

I've already tried manually lowering them, and even when you manually turn the ****, they still won't move, on both of them, and the actuator arm between the motor and the lights themselves are both still strongly attached.

A mechanic she took it to said something about bearings, and wanted almost $2000 to fix it. So I'd just like to know if there's anything I can do to keep from having to spend that kind of money.

Re: '88 Trans Am headlights stuck up

Yea, run far far away from that mechanic. Being you can't lower them manually, i would have to assume something with the motors, although i find it odd for both to go at the same time, but oddities do happen as both of my motors went a week apart. top-downsolutions.com offers rebuild kits to these headlight motors, and depending on what parts you get, some of his parts will outlast the car (like the aluminum gearing and such). I believe his user name is Lon or Loni on here, not sure, but you can contact him through the website, and he will be able to help you with all of your headlight motor needs, and you can do the repairs yourself...saving yourself at least $1900, lol.
