91 V8 gauge cluster in a 91 V6?
Can this work? My v6 gauges are way off, found a cluster from a v8 car that works. Is this a direct bolt in or does it need wired diffently?

Temp Install the V8 cluster AS-IS and see what works and what doesn't. ( Just push it onto the cluster plugs and turn the key ) This is a good time to replace any dead back-lighting or "tell-tale" light bulbs like BRAKE or SECURITY for example. Once you know the gauges and backlighting and tell-tale lights work OK in the replacement (V8) cluster, pull your V6 Tachometer and Tachometer chip from your original Cluster and install them into the replacement. Done.
If your Tach was reading correctly than it will read correctly in the replacement cluster. If the Tach was reading wrong than the tach will remain reading wrong.
At this point you would have a V8 cluster with the original V6 tach and Chip. If the tach is still not working right then you could TRY to install the V8 Tachometer chip ( NOT the Tach GAUGE ) to see if that corrects the tach reading. I do not know if this will work - but it's worth a shot !

Re: 91 V8 gauge cluster in a 91 V6?
ive done a few tach fixes lately and changing the chip really didnt change nothing. changing the tach itself would make a change. i really havent figured out why yet as im still learning them. i do know the pulse signals are different from a v6 to v8. not trying to mislead anybody anything is worth a shot, especially when one of them isnt working anyway.

Calibration Situation
Pulse signals are not “different” V6 vs. V8, there are merely less of them per revolution.
3 per rev for a V6, 4 per rev for a V8.
Tachs can be calibrated thusly:
In the dash there is a circuit that moves the pointer.
It’s contained on a small plug-in PCB or integrated in the main board.
On the PCB you’ll see a resistor chip.
Desolder pins 4 & 10.
Use a 500K potentiometer.
Solder it across traces 4 & 10.
Move the potentiometer to half way.
Start the engine and compare the tach reading with a test equipment quality tach.
Dial it in, unsolder one side of the potentiometer, measure it and buy the matching resistor.
