SES light code question

recently my my SES light has been coming on at odd times so i hooked up the jumper wire to the test terminals and it flashed 3 times paused and flashed 2 times. the haynes manual said it was something wrong with the baro sensor circuit. I have never heard of the baro sensor could anyone please explain what the baro sensor does and possibly give me an idea where to start checking the problem? i have an 87 firebird 2.8L rebuilt.

MAP sensor

Carb cars used a barometric sensor, EFI MAP. Same thing, just baro is open to the atmosphere, MAP is ported to the intake vacuum

Check the rubber vacuum line to it before you replace the MAP

Re: SES light code question

For your 87, that code is referring to an EGR system error. The parts for this are the other 2 parts mounted to the ignition coil bracket. As said before, check the vacuum lines running to the valve for breaks and clogging.

BTW, don't believe everything you see and read in Haynes... I've spotted a few errors in there.

:edit: All of the above only applies if you didn't make a typo and you're actually putting out code 33, which is for the MAF sensor, and is the same problem I'm having.

On a 89 Firebird Formula ws6 where would this all be at?
Pulled the codes from mine and got code(s) 32 and 54
Which are the Baro Sensor Circuit and m/c Solenoid. (Both seem to be connected to the Solenoid, so im thinking thats what needs to be replaced)
