Cant Get Power Doors To Work...

Ok this is my problem...on my 87 camaro since i got it i cant get the locks to work right..when i hit the buttons on either side nothing happens at all..i checked with a power light inside the car in the lower left hand corner and its power is going thru the black wire but for some reason it makes a clicking sound when i have the light tester there but when i take it off nothing happens i already checked the little motor in the doop pannel and when i put 12 volts to it it works im stumped i dunno what to look for any help would be great thanks.

Check the door relay.

Do you hear it when you actuate the switches?

The relay should be located behind the left shroud near the door grommet.

If you haven’t done this yet:

On the door relay, connect the test light from ground to pin A (
LIGHT-BLUE wire) and press the left lock button.

Do you have power on pin A when you are pressing the button?

If the answer is yes, and the relay does not click when you are pressing and releasing the button, replace the relay.

The relay is the device located behind the left shroud near the door grommet.

It should look similar to this:

So if you have power on pin A when you are pressing the button, you know the left lock button is OK.

That’s OK.

If you put your test light on pin F
thin BLACK wire and press the left unlock button,
the test light should illuminate.

Are you hearing any clicking out of that relay?

That means the test light is completing a circuit.

You might have an open ground.

You’ll need an ohmmeter to make progress on the repair.

The grounds for the system are under the rear of the console, and under the seat.

To check the relay ground touch one probe to terminal D (the THICKER black wire).

Touch the other probe to ground (it can be any ground in the car because all grounds connect to each other).

If terminal D is properly grounded the ohmmeter will read about an ohm or less.
