currently have hei on my 283 in my 84 z, want to step up to msd . so i went to the hotrod shop and they said to go with
5520 street fire box
8361 dis. with vac.
8207 ss coil
if i go this way will i have to cut up the stock conections going to the hei???

and what would u put in? pls give me suggestions thanks SEAN.

You'll only be using the switched +12v and the tach wire from the HEI, but you shouldn't have to do any cutting.

 

so ur saying that the plug for the hei will plug to the point dis. ?

 

That's not a points distributor, it's a magnetic pickup and has no electronics of its own. You'll be connecting the factory harness to the MSD. You can put connectors on the end of the box's wires for that.
