Electronics going nuts
So when i turn the headlight on in my 86 trans am it drops the rpms and the voltgauge goes down then pops back up. That is normal as i understand it. Here is where things get wierd. On the dash where the turn signals are the left turn signal indicator stays on solid. it has never done that. and when i turn on the signal it flashes slower than the right turn signal. When i step on the brakes it drops the rpms and voltage as well... That isn't normal is it? I cleaned the ground for the brakes and i had a rear sidemarker bulb burnt out but i replaced it and the outside brake light when u step on the pedal is dimmer than all the others. Got any ideas? all the lights are lighting up... Anything you guys have would be helpful. Thanks.
And is there a right direction or a wrong direction for the bulb in the rear side marker? Would that do it?

Re: Electronics going nuts
check your blinker bulbs, lots of times if they go bad they will still light up normal, but the blink section will be burned out, usuall the arrow on the dash that lights up lets you know thats the side that has a burnt out bulb. as far as hitting the brakes and having everything drop dont see how that could be normal, never noticed that before. but it could be thats the side that has a burnt turn bulb, i think there could be a short possibly in that side rear light wiring wich could be telling the car that a turn signal bulb is not functioning properly, but actually shorting out with another wire wich is putting extra load on your sytem making the rpms drop a bit. and with the one being dimmer than the others, indicates thats were you have an issue, try replacing the bulb, and if that dont help, clean out the contacts in the socket, you should do that anyways when you change the bulb, and also check the wires make sure they arent cracked or touching anything else. check that by removing your taillight let the socket hang, turn on the lights and try moving it around a bit, see if theres any chance to the brightness, if theres a wire touching somewere when you move it around it should remove that other wire contact momentarily enough for you to see a difference. hope this might help you out. as for the right and wrong direction for the side marker, i think they go wither way, either that or they will just plug in one way like regular bulbs.

Re: Electronics going nuts
Ok so i got some more work done on my TA. I got the break light working like normal and so is the rear driver side marker light. the front marker light is working fine too. I installed a new socket for the front driver side blinker and the blinker works and is at the right brightness... UNTIL... Total suspense right? Sorry got distracted... You turn on the head lights and then the blinker just stays solid. I know i wired it right and i soddered the connections... whats going on with that? Any ideas? Thats the only problem i am having with it now. Oh by the way... the signal indicator on the dash is no longer staying solid.

not sure about that, if thier wires seperatly shouldnt be doing that I think, maybe your switch possible, did it do that before? try double checking your wires I guess, sounds like something is connected between the 2.

As for the blinker... I got it fixed. It turns out I had two of the wires backwards... Oops!
So the blinker is just fine now. Although I am still getting a slight drop in my rpms when i step on the break. A lot less extreme than before now that I have all my lights working... Is this normal? I could understand why it would be due to the fact that 6 lights are activating at once... Any thoughts on that?

Eureka! I think i found the answer to why im getting a change in my rpms when i step on the break turn on the head lights or when ever i put a load on the engine! There is a spot on my spark plug wires that have been worn through on the insulation where it touches the block! that would explain it all! Right?
Im gonna change those out and see what it does. I bet that will fix it.
