IIRC, a thermal switch cuts the motor when it become too hot. Overheating "may" be due to binding. I'd try adjusting the window before replacing the motor.

^^^Agreed. I replaced the motor on the passenger side door and found that it moved just as slow as the old motor but after I adjusted the window and lubed the tracks it worked much better. I did the same to the driver side and it works great with the old motor still in it. Try adjusting and lubing before replacing the motor. Good luck.

If you do end up replacing the motor, do a search on here for a thread titled something like "tech article BS" - it has a page to print showing where to drill in the door panel to drill out the rivets holding the motor to the regulator - it's a very easy method for replacing the motor without removing the regulator from the door - I did both sides on mine using this method 3 years ago, and it was fast, easy, and worked very well.
