Unidentified electronic box.

hello all, I am new to this, and new to my camaro as well, I have been working all the bugs out of it the last few weeks, including the dreaded heater core replacement. Recently my car has had issues not wanting to turn over at all, I came here for advice and tried about everything suggested, I found a small black box in the engine bay with about 5 wires going into it, it is fastened to a bracket at the drivers side of the firewal by two screws. It has some wires begginning to pull out of the plug, and if i mess around with it a bit my car will start perfectly. I am not sure what this part is, or what it does, could anybody shine some light on this for me so I know exactly what it is im trying to repair? thanks to anyone who replies.

-my car is an 85 IROC with the TPI 305.

Re: Unidentified electronic box.

There are 3 relays over there. MAF, Fuel Pump & ?(i forget). Sounds like a MAF or pump relay problem, but it would also help to know what happens when the key it turned.

When you turn the key to the Run position, do you hear the fuel pump kick on, for about 3 seconds, then shut off, until you actually turn the key to the Start position? ANY starting? Starts, but runs rough?

when I turn the key to the run position i dont hear the fuel pump, and when i turn it to start it drains the power and the radio etc will turn off from low voltage, but it doesnt even try to run the starter, after messing around with said box i hear the fuel pump and the car starts perfectly.

Re: Unidentified electronic box.

thats your fuel pump relay, if your wires are coming out of the connector then you should try to fix them, because if ater hearing the fuel pump kick on after messing with it then thats your problem, its not kicking on and letting your fuel pump prime. either a bad relay or the connector is bad. the relay is only $12 at autozone, and check your wires wirst make sure they arent shorting themselves out at the connector. as far as the starting, not sure. I have the same problem with my car except i replaced my relay after hearing it kick on when messing with it, now it doesnt kick on after messing with it, which says to me that the old relay was bad anyways, but I still cant crank from the key and the pump still doesnt prime from ign on position. check out some of my other posts, Rolling thunder and vette 05 been posting in them and have posted wiring diagrams to check out which may help you out. I just havent had much time at mine and the weather still isnt at that "spend the day on the car" temperature.

Re: Unidentified electronic box.

well i replaced the relay, and soldered on a new connector to fix the wiring issue, the fuel pump comes on but the starter still doesnt even try to start, turn the key and its like everything just goes to ground and shuts off.
