**EDIT: Well I happened to run across some extra info on this problem, and turns out it is in fact the gear stripping. Apparently all this stuff is wired into the computer for the daytime running lights, and when the gear starts getting stripped, it confuses the computer causing the headlights to act funny when using the park lights or the keyless entry keyring. Damn GM and thier use of cheap plastics, but thank goodness it is something simple and not a wiring problem as I was fearing. Maybe this can help someone else in the future who is having a similar problem.


Hello everyone, I have a problem here with my headlights, and didnt know where else to turn for advice. I appologize for posting this here, I know this site is for third gen cars, but Im hoping someone might know enough to help out since I dont know any fourth gen websites.

My headlights are giving a number of problems that all seemed to occur at the same time. First I noticed that when I use the keyless entry button on my keyring, the headlights pop up when I push the unlock button and then close again. They should not be popping up when this unlock button is pushed, I have had the car since I bought it new eight years ago and its never done this before today. Also I notice when the headlights close the driver side motor continues to turn and makes this aweful noise like the gear is stripping.

The headlights also pop up now when turning on the parking lights only. They should not do this, and should only pop up when the actual headlights are turned on.

I have read that this could be related to the headlight motor gear getting stripped out but that doesnt explain why they pop up when I use my unlock button on the keyring, or why they would pop up when I have the parking lights only turned on.

The headlights seem very solid when open and dont seem to be stripped out.

Anyone have any ideas about what the problem could be ?
