Can digital controls be converted?

Hey gang - 88 GTA Digital Dash. I am interested in purchasing the older model heater control unit (the thing with the dial that controls AC/Heat)from the 82-84 era. I found a great guy who had a bunch for sale, but he pointed something out to me that is causing a road block. My car has the digital controls (See pics) and apparently the wiring and connectors in the back of my unit are completely different from the 'dial' style unit. To quote the person helping me:

"I'm not sure if a conversion will work for you. I say that because the heater control you have is electronicly controlled. That means that there is no Vacuum to the controller to operate the vents & the air delivery or "mode" might not work. I also noticed that your tempature slider is the oposite of the "regular" heater control with COLD on the left and HOT on the right."

Has anyone been able to successfully convert the digital unit to the older model ones? If so, would you be able to lend some advice? Thanks everyone.
