Electrical probems... HELP!!!
I need some help here guys... I just replaced the cap and the coil in my distributor along with the battery cables... The alternator is putting out acceptable levels of voltage... But when i put a load on my car... Like when I turn the head lights on and i leave it running it dies when the coolant fan tries to come on. If it is at an idle when the headlights are on and the coolant fan comes on it surges and my voltage drops to 8. I don't know what in the world is going on... Any ideas? Would my rotor be bad? And i know my alternator is putting out acceptable voltage, but if its not putting out the right amount of amperage would that screw it up? I know that when i got my alternator tested they said it was charging and the voltage was good. The battery is basically brand new. Help im out of ideas. The plug wires have been replaced and are brand new as well. Would a sticky IAC motor do this under a load? And the car is an 86 trans am with a 305, tuned port injection. Or would the IAC being out of adjustment do it?Thanks

with a volt meter check the juice at the battery when you flip da switch on the lights and then check it again at the alternator, it could be a bad cable, the one that feeds the 12 volts to the alternator...
