Bulkhead connector and electrical questions
I recently installed a 1988 IROC 350 TPI including all underhood harnesses and ECM in my 1986 IROC which previously had a 305 TPI motor in it. I did not change any of the wiring inside of the car, only the under hood leading up to the ECM inside the car.
Will any of the wiring inside the car other than the ECM need to be modified or changed?
Is the 1988 bulkhead harness compatible with the 1986 bulkhead harness?
I have some electrical issues that may be related to the pinout of these connectors.
1. the fuel pump wiring has low voltage 7.9 volt when the key is turn forward. I have 12 VDC on the tan with white stripe on the fuel relay but the voltage at the connector for the fuel pump is still low.
2. several of the fuses do not have any current at the fuse box, I used my meter and a test light, with key forward and off. The headlights are not working either.
3. we have plenty of spark just no fuel.
I have been at this for sometime and could use everyone's help.
Thanks

Re: Bulkhead connector and electrical questions
The new harness should interchange. Low voltage sounds like a short. The light harness is fed by a power wire at the C100. Since you have nothing, test for a bad fusible link at the starter
Plan B would be to use your old harness from the 305

Thanks Pocket I put the old harness in and lights work great.
I will start to look for the wiring short for the fuel pump this weekend.
Thanks again

Re: Bulkhead connector and electrical questions
Hi all,
chasig down a problem with no headlights and cabin power. I do have brake lights and rear directionals only and the carb’d 1983 Z starts fine. I pulled the c100 but din’t Know how to test it for power with a voltmeter. I have copies of the C100 diagram. I checked fusible links but couldn’t identify any?? Perhaps they were removed? Thanks!

Did you check the fusable links at the starter ?
You will need to backprobe C100 to check for power.
you should start your own thread not use a thread from eight years ago.

You can back probe the C100 wires with a safety pin .
I can’t find a image of C100 for 83 you should start a post with the image and check the power distribution wires.

Re: Bulkhead connector and electrical questions
Does the starter fusible link tie directly to a power distribution plug on the c100? Meaning, if some of my fuses have power and the CTSY does not, does that still point to possible fusible links? Thanks. I can see them and I pulled them off but really how do I tell if they are good/bad without ripping them off and replacing them.?? Visibly they look fine.
Lastly, which pin @ the c100 should have power always on? Mine only has one, the red one. Should there be more than 1 always on/live?
Sorry I am double posting, I got my own thread mixed with this one..
Thanks!
